Case Management & Casework

Centacare FNQ provides Settlement Services that use a strengths based approach, working with people to build the skills and knowledge they need to become self-reliant and active members of the Australian community. The following Casework and Case Management assistance is provided:

  • Support to refugees and humanitarian entrants to assist them in their first 6 - 18 months in Australia. Humanitarian entrants are referred directly into the Centacare by the Department of Social Services
  • Specialised intensive support is available to humanitarian visa holders who have complex needs. This support is usually up to 6 months. People requiring intensive support for complex issues can be referred by any individual or organisation and must be approved by the Department of Social Services
  • Support to asylum seekers and vulnerable people who are in the process of resolving their immigration status. We can help eligible people apply for this service through the Department of Home Affairs.
  • Support for people from refugee and migrant backgrounds to address settlement needs. 
  • Self-referral - call and make an appointment.

 

Orientation Program

We provide an Orientation Program for newly arrived refugees and humanitarian entrants. The program includes information and practical learning around a range of topics including: Australian Law and Culture; Housing and Tenancy; Employment and Education Financial Management and Health and Wellbeing.

Information Sessions

Information sessions are provided to ensure that newly arrived refugees and migrants have the information they need to participate in the Australian community. Information sessions may include:

  • Disaster Preparedness
  • Fishing and Recreation
  • Police and Justice
  • Understanding Counselling
  • Budgeting Skills

Group Work

We also facilitate groups for refugee and migrant communities that promotes resilience, life skills and leadership. Our groups brings people together to create connections, reduce social isolation and encourages local community participation.

Youth Support

Children and young people settling in Australia often face different challenges to their parents or families. Centacare FNQ provides casework and group programs specifically for young people within the primary and secondary schools systems.
