Centacare Cairns offers opportunities for volunteers to give their time, life experience and skills to the community while enhancing service delivery to clients.

Volunteering is mutually beneficial to both Centacare and the volunteer. Some of the reasons why people volunteer include:

  • Meeting new people
  • Gaining experience
  • Staying active and involved
  • Learning new skills
  • Supporting a cause
  • Having fun

All Volunteers are required to:

  • Have an interview and two reference checks
  • Obtain a 'working with children check' Suitability Card (Blue Card)
  • Attend a training session

Volunteer Opportunities at Centacare Multicultural Services (CMS)

Volunteers provide ongoing practical assistance to new and recently arrived refugees with the aim of empowering them towards independence. CMS engages volunteers in various client support roles including accessing public transport and homework assistance.

A volunteer with CMS is someone who has a commitment to social justice, well developed communication skills, is keen to learn about the challenges faced by refugees and migrants and has a strong commitment to working in a culturally appropriate manner.
